6 Reasons You Should Try White Toner for Your Business

There are a lot of reasons why a white toner printer may be the right next move for your business. Today I’m going to share my top six reasons why I think you should try white toner printing.

1. Time Saving

If you started your business with a Cricut machine and HTV, you probably found that the time you spend cutting and weeding your material is not cost-effective.

Many people move on to sublimation next but it only works on white or light-colored polyester fabrics or poly-coated blanks.

DTF is another option that allows you to apply full-color prints onto dark fabrics but the time and maintenance may be another deterrent.

White toner prints can be printed quickly and applied to many different surfaces in all colors opening up a wide variety of products that can be made quickly with one printer. Plus the printer does not require that daily maintenance!

2. No Maintenace

The biggest selling point for white toner printing might just be that there is zero maintenance. You do not have to print regularly, you don’t even have to keep your printer plugged in.

Because white toner printers are toner-based ink not liquid-based you will never have to deal with clogs or the daily clean-up required of DTF printers.

Even sublimation printers require regular use to prevent clogs and if you get a clog, the troubleshooting to fix it can take hours or even days.

3. Wide Variety of Blank Options

There are going to be pluses and minuses for every craft printer out there but a white toner printer is going to give you the ability to create more products than any other printer.

DTF prints are limited to fabric or porous surfaces. UV DTF has a very sticky adhesive back and doesn’t work well on fabric or porous surfaces. Sublimation is limited to poly-coated or polyester blanks that are white or light-colored.

Depending on the paper you are using, you can add white toner prints to any type of fabric in any color but that isn’t all.

White toner prints can help you grow your small business by giving you even more product options. You can add designs to mylar balloons. You can create your own temporary tattoos. I’m not sure I can list every item you can add white toner prints to but here are a few ideas:

  • Canvases
  • Earrings (wood, leather, acrylic)
  • Notebooks
  • Cardstock
  • Coasters
  • Leather
  • Bookmarks

With all these blank options, you’re sure to find a new item to add to your business.

4. Safer than DTF

Another major selling point for me was safety. There is a reason I don’t own a DTF printer in my home. The powdering process and the fumes did not make it an option because I do not have a dedicated space in my home just for a DTF printer.

If you want the look of DTF prints without the safety concerns, adding white toner to your business is a great option.

5. Side by Side Comparison

Sublimation, DTF, and White Toner Printers can all be a large business expense. Here are some reasons a white toner printer may actually make you more money in the long run.

  • Printing time is faster than DTF prints which means you will be more productive than you would if you owned a DTF printer.
  • There are items you can make with white toner prints that you cannot make with these other printer options which will allow you to expand your product line.
  • You can easily train others to help you print and press designs.
  • There are a lot of small blank options that allow you to fill an entire sheet with designs. This increases the value of every sheet you print.
  • White Toner Printers will come with the software you need to start using it right away.
  • You can sell White Toner prints, you do not need to sell finished products and you don’t have to use prints right away.
  • A White Toner printer is also a regular printer. Unlike sublimation and DTF, you can use this printer to print homework papers, shopping lists, or anything else you might need to print.

6. Wash and Wear

Another strong selling point for white toner prints is how well they wash and wear. When your design is set up appropriately for white toner printers they feel fantastic on fabric and wash beautifully.

Even after many, many washes your design will still look great. As white toner prints age, they wear like your favorite vintage shirt. The design does not peel or crack, it will slowly start to fade which means the life of your shirt will likely last even longer than 50 washes.

What are the Cons of White Toner Printing?

I don’t want these to scare you away from using white toner prints for your business but I do want to call out what some of the cons are for white toner printing.

  1. You need a high-quality heat press. You cannot press white toner prints with an iron or EasyPress. I didn’t even have consistent success with the Autopress. You need a press that has a consistent temperature across the heat plate and consistent pressure. Something with adjustable pressure is a necessity.
  2. You may need to adjust your designs for them to work well with white toner prints. You do not want a large sticker-type design or it will feel stiff and heavy on the shirt. Within the RIP software, you can easily remove individual colors or rasterize your design so it works well with white toner prints.
  3. The RIP software you have to use for this printer is currently PC only. You cannot use a MAC or a mobile device to run this printer.
  4. You will need to take the time to learn your printer. I think the cost of the printer is high enough that no one is going to buy it and just let it sit there. Your printer should come with video training to help you get started and answer common questions you may have.

Ready to try White Toner Printing for Your Business?

In case you can’t tell I am a big fan of white toner printing for businesses. I could talk for days about why I think you should look at your business and see if a white toner printer is the right choice for you.

If you sell apparel or other textile items like tote bags or makeup bags, you could add other items like earrings, temporary tattoos, invitations, etc to grow your business even more. Think about the products you sell and look at what else you could make with a white toner printer.
